Tongue Tie Pre & Post-operative Instructions

Here are some of the instructions you need to know before the tongue surgery:

TONGUE-TIE

Feeding:

Last feeding should be 2 hours before the procedure; if 2 years and above, 4-5 hours before the procedure.

Pain Medication:

Giving the child pain medication before the procedure is very important for pain management later onwards.

  • Give Adol, Tylenol, Panadol or Brufen 1 hour before the procedure
  • dosage should always base on the weight of the patient, always clarify it to your doctor.
Blanket:

Bring a large cotton blanket to wrap baby during the procedure.

Nose Drops:

Put Saline Nose drops 6 drops in each.

Following the tongue tie procedure at the clinic:

You may breastfeed, bottle-feed, or soothe your baby in any manner you’d like following the procedure.

Instructions after the tongue tie procedure at home:

  • Give Pain relief (Oral and Local) medications as needed
  • Oral – (Adol, Tylenol or Panadol): every 6-8 hours as needed for pain.
  • Apply a non- numbing teething gel like Gengigel or Dentinox under the tongue as needed for pain.
  • Do Stretching Exercises.

Stretching and Massaging Exercises:

Doing the exercises as instructed allows for proper healing by reducing the risk of reattachment and therefore  the need for repeat surgery. These exercises must be done at least 5 times a day for 3 weeks.
