Helping Your Child Breathe,
Sleep & Grow Better –
A Guide for Parents

Dear Parent,
Thank you for your trust in letting us be part of your child’s health journey. During your visit to Dr. Yasmin Kottait, the best Pediatric Dentist in Dubai, we noticed a few signs that may suggest your child’s airway function is compromised, such as mouth breathing, low tongue posture, and an immature
swallowing pattern.
These issues may seem small now, but they can impact your child’s sleep, jaw development, posture, and even behavior if not addressed by a good Pediatric Dentist in Dubai trained in Airway Dentistry.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to support your child’s airway
development and help them thrive, both now and in the future.

Strengthen the Tongue with
Simple Exercises

These fun myofunctional exercises help train the tongue to sit in the right position (up, not low), support better swallowing, and improve overall breathing.
Please help your child do these 3 times a day or more:

Tongue Clicks:
Make a loud clicking sound by pressing the tongue to the roof of the mouth, then snapping it down. This strengthens tongue elevation.

Kissy Face:
Ask your child to pout their lips like blowing a kiss, then smile big. This works the lip and cheek muscles.

Tongue Side-to-Side:
Stick the tongue out and move it left to right. It helps improve control and flexibility.

Tongue “Round the World”:
Move the tongue in circles around the lips. This is great for coordination and range of motion.

Tongue Up Touch Lips:
Touch the tongue to the top lip without moving the head. This helps tongue tip strength and posture.
Tip: Make it fun! Do them together in front of a mirror or make it part of getting in the car routine, bedtime and morning routines.
Practice Daily Breathing Awareness
Exercises (2–5 Minutes Only)

Just a few minutes of calm and nose-only breathing every day can improve how your child breathes and sleeps. It also helps nasal breathing become more of a conscious effort till it becomes a habit.
Encourage your child to:
- Close lips gently
- Breathe in and out slowly through the nose
- Breathe in for 4 counts, hold breath for 4 counts, and breathe out for 4 counts
- Initially make it a family event until your child gets the hang of it, and then they can do it by themselves
Do this:
- After/during using MyoChew, Infant Trainer, or Myobrace
- Before bedtime
- Anytime your child needs to calm down
Benefits include:
- Stronger airway muscles
- Less snoring and better sleep
- Healthier tongue and lip posture
- Better oxygen flow and focus during the day
Conscious awareness of nasal breathing
Encourage Nasal Breathing and
Reduce Mouth Breathing

Helping your child breathe through their nose instead of their mouth is an important step in improving sleep, growth, and overall health. The nose has to be patent in order for our exercises and effort to bring us results. Here’s how to support that transition:
Nasal Irrigation &
Rinsing (2–4 Times a Day)
Regular nasal rinsing helps keep the nose clear and supports natural breathing.
Nasal Rinse Option:
This can be used morning and evening, and more often if your child has congestion
or allergies.

Neti Pot for Older Children
A neti pot is helpful if your child’s nose is blocked or has excess mucus. Best used for older children who can follow instructions.
Always use the salt packets along with distilled or filtered water and never tap water. Since not all ENT specialists recommend this method, it’s best to consult your child’s ENT doctor to determine the most suitable option.

For Parents of Babies & Toddlers: Use a Nasal Wash Syringe
If your little one is too young for a neti pot, a nasal wash syringe offers a safe, gentle way to clear stuffy noses. It helps babies breathe, sleep, and feed more comfortably, especially during colds.

Xlear Xylitol Nasal Spray
Xlear is a natural spray that moisturizes and clears the nasal passages. Ideal for children who mouth breathe, have chronic nasal congestion, or are starting Myobrace in Dubai.
Dosage: 1-2 sprays per nostril, 2–3 times a day—ideally in the morning and before bedtime. Consistent use can support better breathing, improved sleep, and enhanced effectiveness of Myobrace treatment. Since recommendations may vary, it’s best to consult your child’s ENT specialist to determine if this is the right option.

Daytime Mouth Taping
Mouth taping can help children become more aware of their breathing and encourage conscious nasal breathing, but only if they’re willing and ready.
Only tape during the daytime under supervision (never at night).

Add MyoChew/Infant Trainer to
Their Daily Routine

MyoChew is a special entry-level Myobrace tool for children aged 2 to 8 years that promotes chewing, nasal breathing, and tongue strength, key elements in Airway focused Pediatric Dentistry.

How is it helpful?

Strengthens
jaw muscles:
Chewing activates the same muscles that help keep the tongue up and lips closed, supporting nasal breathing.
Encourages nasal
breathing:
Reduces mouth-breathing patterns linked to sleep and growth issues.
Optional Infant Trainer:
For younger children, an Infant Trainer may be recommended by Dr. Yasmin to gently guide oral muscle development, support nasal breathing, and prepare the mouth for future Myobrace use.
Exercises the tongue:
Helps improve posture and movement of the tongue.
Gentle cleaning:
Built-in bristles clean teeth and are helpful for kids sensitive to brushing.
Use it for at least 10 minutes, twice daily, under supervision. Gradually increase wear time with the recommendation of the best Kids Dentist in Dubai as your child adjusts. Rinse with warm water after every use.
💡Remember:
Chewing is the gym for the face, as strong muscles help your child breathe and grow better.
Ready for your Child’s Myobrace
Therapy? Let’s Begin Together!

If your child is doing daily exercises, breathing through the nose, and wearing the myochew or trainer for 30 minutes to 1 hour a day, it’s the perfect time to start Myobrace therapy with Dr. Yasmin Kottait, expert in Airway-Focused Pediatric Dentistry.
The Myobrace system includes different sizes and stages, each designed to support your child’s unique growth phase and needs according to their age.

The Myotalea System:

A breakthrough in improving oral muscle function. There is one more appliance if your child needs myofunctional therapy or more assisted training of the tongue if the exercises above are not enough. The Myotalea® System is a new generation of appliances designed to strengthen the muscles of the tongue, lips, jaw, and airway. This system offers one of the most advanced solutions for helping children develop healthier breathing, speaking, and swallowing patterns without needing myotherapy sessions.
What makes Myotalea unique is its focus on active muscle training, meaning your child is not just wearing the appliance but also engaging the muscles that are essential for proper oral development. This helps improve strength, coordination, and tone in the muscles responsible for breathing through the nose, keeping the tongue in the right position, and supporting facial growth.
With consistent use and the correct exercises, the Myotalea appliance plays an important role in supporting your child’s myofunctional therapy journey—making treatment more effective, engaging, and results-driven.
These appliances help build stronger oral and facial muscles, guide proper jaw growth, and support healthy nasal breathing, setting the foundation for lifelong dental and airway health. Sometimes both the Myotalea and the Myobrace are given together according to the needs of the child.
The earlier we start, the better the results. And we’re here to guide you all the way.
We’re In This Together!

Every child is unique, and this journey takes patience. But with small and consistent steps and guidance from Dr. Yasmin Kottait, the best Dentist for Kids in Dubai, your child will develop healthier habits that support long-term growth and well-being.
